Sounds simple enough. I can look in the mirror and let my mind define what I see. However, everything I THINK I know about myself needs to be validated. That requires going beyond the threshold of thought and into understanding.
Have you ever done something but you could never understand why? I observed something similar this week. Someone I know very well did something this person would never do, at least in my mind (tee hee). The same thing happens in break-ups all the time. “You’re not the person I thought you were,” they say as they walk out the door.
Even the most self-aware person cannot perceive beyond a very limited scope. It’s hard to define the human experience of awareness, consciousness, love, instinct, and spirituality. In other words, we experience things beyond our understanding all the time. Without understanding, how can I know myself? I have my interpretation of Russell, and all others have theirs.
In our world of technology, science, and history, I am a consumer. Some part of me wants to digest increasing amounts of information. That is the seeker in me. The hope is that with knowledge comes understanding. Greater understanding leads to higher levels of awareness. I can project consciousness beyond physical life and into the mystery. Then why is it that the more I seem to know, the more awareness I have that I don’t know anything? How can I know myself? The questions are piling up, which means it’s time for a whisper on the subject:
Some things can be understood on some level without needing definition. You can know love by the familiar feeling at the soul level. You can feel exhilaration that is the same as when the soul entered the body. You can understand the effects of trauma through realization of the strength it took to overcome challenges. You can trust your instinct by the way your heart responds.
The human body is made from organic material assembled in a three-dimensional world. There are limitations as a result. Only a narrow band of light can be seen. Audible sounds are limited in the human experience. Knowledge and understanding also face limitations. Restrictions bring a clear focus to human awareness.
You are a Cosmic surfer in an ocean of energy, going wherever the wave takes you. Occasionally, you dive beneath the surface to search for something you cannot understand. Earth is a vessel that encourages some to seek what exists outside the human container. The result is the birth of a mystic. Searching for answers in the mystery is an attempt to expand consciousness beyond the repository of the human mind.
You begin your human journey with a blank canvas. As you grow, you create without predictability. The subjective experiences form vibrations that are unstable. You will organize the vibrations according to your understanding of nature. Consciousness gives meaning to life. With everything you know about yourself, there is growing awareness to everything you do not know. Life holds the duality. Every aspect of your defined reality has an equal measure of what is undefined. A mystic is defined by seeking beyond their understanding.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
