I am endlessly curious about people becoming bored. Instead of scratching it, I try to breathe and be with my feelings and my environment. It often turns into a consciousness meditation and feeling grateful for my surroundings, my life, my world. Endless opportunities for stimulation exist everywhere one might look, even if that is occasionally looking away from our cell phone devices (tee tee).
Boredom is defined by Merriam-Webster as the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest. I guess it can be easily understood with children, especially with technology as the constant vehicle for entertainment and less of connecting with nature. I once heard someone respond to an expression of boredom by saying, “Well, I guess that means God didn’t make this day to be good enough for you!” (Ouch)
To be honest, it’s hard for me to relate to boredom, mainly because I can’t remember feeling that way. Sir Winston Churchill’s last words were, “I’m bored with it all.” Boredom could represent a form of loneliness, completion, restlessness, feeling stuck, or annoyance? Let’s get a stimulating whisper from spirit on the subject of boredom:
A lack of stimulation in life can create an emotional energy that is interpreted as boredom. Anything that causes a gap, or void, in the area of inspired realization, can leave the opportunity to question what is lacking. The inability to find gratitude in the moment, or anything that serves as removal from present focus, can become an unwelcome reality.
Life occurs in rhythms and cycles. The feeling of boredom can be a sign that energy is dropping to a low point in the cycle, which signals the next movement will be upward. During a moment of boredom, inspiration, excitement, interest, pleasure, and vital energy may be temporarily lowered. It is the individual perception of these energies that leads to the conclusion that boredom is being experienced.
Otherwise, the story held in the mind is like reading the last chapter of a book – the story of the moment is complete. The soul likes a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. Experiencing an ending may bring emotions of grief, loss, loneliness, or emptiness, all of which could introduce a drop in energy. Once again, the mental perception of the emotion defines the feeling as either good or bad. Expressing boredom may be part of the perception that something important is missing, such as desire, vigor, or an energy that has been previously available.
When the feeling of boredom shows up, become aware of any endings, completions, losses, lower energies, or anything that appears to be lacking. Apply gratitude for the blessings found in the present moment and shift into the inevitable upward trend. A lack of stimulation can be welcomed into the mind and body space as a respite from the normal pace. Embrace any lack of stimulation as a revered moment to revive and refresh the energy of love.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
“I’m bored’ is a useless thing to say. I mean, you live in a great, big, vast world that you’ve seen none percent of. Even the inside of your own mind is endless; it goes on forever, inwardly, do you understand? The fact that you’re alive is amazing, so you don’t get to say ‘I’m bored.” Louis C.K.
