This word seems to come up often during channeled sessions, so I decide to take a closer look. Devotion is defined as love, loyalty, or enthusiasm for a person, activity, or cause. We don’t use this word a lot, despite the fact that it is the very heart and foundation of human development. Devotion is the core virtue found in the exploration of psychospiritual dimensions, religion, and spiritual traditions around the world. Many orthodox approaches to spirituality include devotion as the goal toward a direct experience with supreme or divine love.
Through our passion and interests, we develop devotion in our daily lives as a critical aspect of all creative expression. There are many types of devotion, such as to self (self-development and self-growth), to family (infant-mother relationship, caring for elderly parents), to career development (company or individual business relationships), and to love (life partner, dating).
We pursue life in the search for happiness. The drive to create more wealth, for example, might be one goal that would seem to bring happiness but rarely does. There are many things for which there is no explanation as to why we devote so much of ourselves. Realization of our innermost dreams is sometimes a product of devotion to something which seemed unimportant until the mystery was unveiled. (It happened to me…tee hee.) Speaking of mystery being unveiled, it’s time for a whisper:
Devotion can be a conscious organization of thoughts and actions, where a clear goal has been established along with a strategy for taking all the proper steps. When working toward realization of an intended outcome, love and passion fuel the internal motor to create the energy needed to sustain the effort. It can be beneficial to have full awareness and understanding of your dedication to that which orbits your life. Clear devotion comes from the deep knowing of self to avoid manifesting an illusion, such as happiness through acquiring wealth.
There is the opposing context, which is the subconscious drive behind your devotion. What might seem like an aimless search for things unknown could be your destiny calling. Your heart does not always inform the mind, so you can’t always see the potential of your manifestation through acts of devotion. If you often feel compelled to the point of willful but aimless dedication to an activity or cause, then perhaps there’s a lesson that control of your fate is an illusion. The appearance of a lack of discipline with your devotion could also serve as an example of living in the present, free from limitations or attachments.
Too much devotion to other people can create a loss of identity, justified by a sense of being compassionate. Your happiness will suffer if you spend your time trying to please others. The key is balanced devotion to self, not the small-minded self with limiting beliefs, but the wise master who resides within. Devotion to the Higher Self reveals one’s true nature, giving voice and clarity to all that is deserving of your passion and focus. Making your challenges the object of your devotion leads to feeling stuck, lost, or unable to endure the traumas you are facing.
Devotion to being your best self is your gift to the world
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
