My financial advisor wants to see diversity in my portfolio. Why? Because it helps keep my finances strong and stable. I live in a place where people from different backgrounds form a community. My family is made of people who share a common aspect of their DNA, yet each of us thinks, acts, and presents as very different personalities. What makes me different shapes my worldview, perspective, and approach to life.
Diversity is a condition of being composed of different elements. It seems we are living in a world where our differences are viewed as a negative. That which makes us different deserves more respect, value, and recognition. The family unit has changed dramatically since the ’50s. We are no longer living in times of the Leave It to Beaver family (tee hee).
It would be boring to live in a world where everyone is the same. Our differences give strength and stability to the family. But it depends on a level of acceptance and understanding of those differences. My commitment to continuous learning provides the inspiration for a whisper on diversity:
The space between people who are different is the area where new ideas and experiences become fertile ground for learning. Diversity opens dialogue, promotes creativity, and offers perspectives that lead to better problem-solving. The possibilities are endless where different people and things exist together in harmony. Diversity is not limited to race, sexual orientation, gender, age, or social status. Diversity is versatility.
Understanding diversity is being mindful that humans are multifaceted beings co-existing. Every person is operating at different levels to occupy various dimensions. Mindfulness is acceptance or inclusion in the broadest sense. To understand others involves the willingness to see past the exterior without fear. Different means unlike. Unlike does not have to mean dislike.
Inclusion carries profound energetic advantages. Without the rigidity of wanting others to think and look the same, innovation flows. Proactive engagement is the energy that leads to heartfelt connections. When differences are seen as valuable, respect fosters a sense of belonging. Cultivating a robust space for initiatives creates an environment that is ripe for learning and growth.
Respecting diversity has a positive effect on mental health due to lowered stress. Supporting and understanding differences brings forth your most authentic self. Inclusion opens the portals to a greater vision for humanity. Open and honest communication creates a safe space for a shared perspective.
Unconscious bias is common in the demands between the primal urges and the superego. It is the essence of that which came before this life, stemming from a lack of representation. Love opens the heart to the acceptance needed to embrace diversity as a moral obligation.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
