Drawing the line can be challenging when it comes to distinguishing between wants and needs. The energy center connected to basic needs is the Root Chakra, which deals with the material world, stability, grounding, taking care of ourselves, and taking care of others. When needs are not met, ungrounding can occur. Desires create wants, connected to the divine function of the Sacral Chakra. This energy center is dedicated to relationships and emotions. When this chakra is out of balance, we might feel stuck, have low desires, feel the need to isolate, or experience emotions connected to the past.
The Heart Chakra is the center of the feeling dimension. Somewhere in our heart, we might experience sadness or anxiety and conclude that our needs are not being met by our relationships, career, health, or finances. Then we have to deal with our minds! (tee hee) This is where the lines can get fuzzy. I describe a need as something we depend on for survival, such as shelter, food, water, and air. A want is something we wish for. How many people think they need their cell phones? Suffering or death doesn’t occur with separation from a cell phone, yet some believe they are an essential need.
No one truly needs another person, although many feel devastated by a break-up or divorce. If depression follows a separation, the ego energy of the heart may have triggered survival mode. Confusion can enter when we want something so bad, it’s perceived as a need. Do we need love to survive, or do we want the love we perceive as a need? Let’s get a whisper on wants and needs:
The physical body has needs, and the spirit is filled with desires and wants. Getting in touch with the physical body is the first step to understanding needs versus wants. Passion begins with the seed planted in the heart that grows to love some aspect of life. The energy of love builds an overall system that learns from experiencing love in some form to grow consciousness.
Acceptance brings balance when the survival mechanism is triggered because of a perception that needs are not being met. Anxiety and depression can interrupt clarity when a person identifies with their wants that become a perceived need. Human body energy systems can get clogged with emotional content in response to the emotions connected to thoughts that needs are not being met. Relationships provide the greatest area for discernment regarding needs versus wants.
Knowing the difference between the two can help ground the flow of energy, leading to a greater ability to manifest desires. Taking an inventory of life to determine needs can bring greater self-awareness to wants. If one can accept they have everything they need, they can feel empowered in the creation process of fulfilling desires. Peace comes with realization.
Personal boundaries include management of thoughts, which are an expression of life. Awakening to reach the highest potential manifestation of life purpose means taking emotional responsibility for anything projected into the Universe. Truth is illumination that leads to knowing the difference between wants and needs. Projecting truth in every expression related to needs and wants is your message of connection to the Universe. Honesty magnetically attracts the people and situations that support what dreams are made of.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
“To feel understood is the one pain medicine that soothes the deepest wounds. Sitting eye to eye, heart to heart, with someone who gets your pain is worth one thousand hours of therapy. We need at least one person to understand us.”
