I love this kind of word! (tee hee) Panpsychism was coined by an Italian Philosopher in the sixteenth century. Taken from two Greek words, pan means all things and psyche means soul or mind. Francesco Patrizi’s view was that all things have a mind-like quality. Humans have a more complex mind than that of a non-human object. What was considered his ‘theory’ was more conjecture about the concepts of life.
For example, a stand of Populus Tremuloides (Trembling Aspens) in Colorado is one of the largest living organisms on earth! These trees are interconnected by a singular root system that covers several acres, making it one large organism. Dr. Marcel Vogel’s experiments added to this conversation. He attached a line spectrograph to a house plant and measured electrical impulses. That plant reacted when he approached with scissors with the intent to cut or harm the plant.
Mental qualities might include sentience, awareness, and adaptability. Rather than describing a mental process involving atoms and the firing of neurons, Vogel used the term that panpsychists avoid. He referred to the reaction as ‘plant consciousness’. The concept of a complex system being driven by consciousness is more mythology than psychology. Understanding the mind is just as difficult as defining consciousness. Let’s get a whisper on the subject of panpsychism.
Panpsychism is part of the history of human evolution. Taking steps to reach higher levels of understanding often requires the study of complex systems. Organic matter would be just that without animation, which comes from spirit. The soul is connected to the entire Universe, while the mind experiences limitations within the construct of a 3D world. Mental qualities possess attributes of consciousness, such as cognition, knowing, intuition, and self-awareness. Energy channels connect each system to influence such traits.
With evolution in the destiny of humankind, some are compelled to uncover the inner workings of the mind, body, and spirit. The thinking faculty is as complex as the Universe. Human are an exact replica of the Solar System. In order to evolve, the mind must find ways to fulfill the role of cultivating virtues. The goal is vibrational alignment. Exactly how the mind and other complex systems operate may remain in the mystery.
Human consciousness grows through opposition. Darkness opposes light. Good opposes evil. Positive opposes negative. Love opposes hate. Through opposition emerges the conceptual framework for human enlightenment. Each person will develop biases according to their beliefs. With such polarity at work, there is opportunity for alignment and positive flow. There is also opportunity for conflict.
The magnetic domain of the earth supports the highest opportunity for polarity learning. Stimulation of the mind and motivation for the soul create the energy to explore and face opposing forces. Forming thoughts that compel action is what leads the human soul to discover the true meaning of life. Love animates the spirit, giving energy to complex systems.
