“Cognitive dissonance is basically this phenomenon whereby we have a natural drive for consistency, in that our belief system must be consistent with itself and it must be consistent with our actions,” says Matt Johnson PhD. These days consistency is a rarified condition of life on Earth (tee hee). When consistency is absent, stress can occupy the energy body.
Many like to believe that life is predetermined before birth. Such a belief can help us cope with the negative events occurring in the world. We find the comfort of consistency in the idea that everything happens for a reason. This core belief helps us explain the good, the bad, and the ugly! When events align with our beliefs, we find balance. Any action, thought, or deed that distorts our idea of harmony makes us think or act out of opposition to our beliefs. Tension is the product of lacking consistency, leading to distress or dissonance.
One day I heard a whisper on the belief that death is predetermined. Beyond the veil there are no hard rules, just general guidelines. Humans have free will, so they can make choices that interrupt destiny for themselves and others. The example would be a drunk driver hitting and killing an innocent person. Some of those types of events will hold a karmic connection between those involved, leading to a date with destiny. Others events will be completely random. My human brain wants to put things in a tidy container to mentally sort through the experience of life, death, and beyond. Use your best Yoda voice on the next sentence. Simple it is not. Let’s strive for consistency and simplicity in a whisper from an angel on this inquiry:
Consistency can always be discovered from taking the elevated path. Rather than building a belief with limitations, create freedom from the need to control. You will never experience stress with an open mind and an open heart. There is meaning to life events that often extends beyond intellectual understanding.
Without memory of the non-physical existence prior to birth, there is no context. The mind has the tendency to distort thoughts in search for total harmony with the existential questions of life. What is considered less than ideal cannot be optimized to create perfection. A hidden standard becomes the measurement for the ego. Once a false belief disrupts the natural drive, stress disturbs the balance.
When life events fall into question, past trauma delivers the energy of control. Viewing life as neither positive nor negative allows for breath to restore calmness after a shocking event. The need to know and the desire for peace are also natural drives. It takes great mental strength to quiet the ego mind in a way that leads to acceptance void of understanding. This is the true definition of forgiveness for self and others.
When cognitive dissonance occurs, you are becoming aware of your dharma. Social order and correct human behavior are found in alignment with external reality. Peace and harmony are found in the emptiness of thoughts. To be an empty vessel means the release of limitations. An unrestricted mind is free to reach higher levels of creative expression. Life unfolds in harmony when open to all forms of love.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
Blessings, Russell
