After a flooding rain uncovered a large swath of fossils near Lake Buchanan, Beckie and I toured the site with a guide. As we searched the ground, the volume of fossilized material was astounding. From dinosaur footprints to zooplankton, the rain uncovered it all. As we wandered through the newly formed canyon, the tour guide mentioned we were in the 6th extinction of the planet. This time, he said, will be the first caused by humans.
Extinction has always been in the story of our Earth. Plants and animals disappear all the time. One extremely rare snake species may have recently gone extinct. It appears to have died from eating a centipede too large to consume (oops). A mass extinction occurs when species vanish at a rate that exceeds replacement. New species often fill the void of those lost to extinction. When a species goes extinct, the role of the ecosystem is to create a replacement.
All past extinctions were marked by extreme temperature change. The result was a rise and fall in ocean levels. There is also the chance of a one-off event like an asteroid hitting the Earth or volcanic eruptions. It seems we are in one of these events right now, but that is hard to determine. Some evidence suggests the human species has faced extinction before, but many fear that possibility. Fossils tell us about how life used to be on Earth, which helps us predict the future. Speaking of predictions, let’s get a whisper on the subject:
Concern for the Earth and the human species is valid. The current trajectory of climate change points to possible human extinction. Planetary resources are not without limitations. There is a level of stress currently being applied to those resources. Concern is valid and a call to action regarding the future of the human species is being felt by many.
There is a point of no return for every species. Humans are no different. The awareness of stress on planetary resources represents the beginning of change. Survival requires change, adaptation, and compliance with current conditions. Within the boundaries of harmony, you will find the limits of human control. Clear confines of a future reality define the path toward survival of the species.
What you find in the subtle realms is influence. Energy influences action. Those in touch with the nuance of human energy can sense an impending disruption. The metaphor is a smoke alarm in the average home – it would not be wise to disconnect the alarm out of fear the burning house will create an unwelcome sound. A wise person would welcome the sensory device giving warning of potential destruction.
Sensitive people are the smoke alarms of the human race. Listen to the warnings from those who offer scientific indicators of potential threat. Survival of any species depends on the ability to adapt. The changing world demands conversion. Transformation occurs through reshaping life to adapt to conditions. Nonconformity is an inevitable construct for human survival. Mass extinction should always be considered by those with vision.
Bring joy, ease suffering and create beauty, then dance like you mean it!
